The chancellor’s surprise master stroke

September 29, 2010

In my capacity as author of several online continuing professional development courses, I’ve recently been asked to contribute some guest blog posts to the newly launched accountingcpd.net. Don’t worry, I haven’t started writing about accounting…

In fact my first post pays unexpected homage to a certain George Osborne’s abilities as a consummate communicator, when he brought massive amounts of money alive for the lay listener by equating them to how much tax an average person pays each year. It’s a classic example of how to link something quite abstract (and potentially dull) with something your audience will immediately relate to and quickly understand. And it’s prompted me to do something I never thought I’d do, and that’s to describe Mr Osborne as ‘brilliant’.

If you can stomach the praise, the full post is available here: http://blog.accountingcpd.net/2010/09/17/how-many-taxpayer-years-are-you-worth/
